About This Online Coaching and Athletic Development Master's Degree Program
The online MS in Coaching and Athletic Development from American Military University (AMU) combines athletic coaching and exercise science with sports business management. You will study coaching strategies and learn how to train athletes for top performance in competitions and lifetime sport involvement. You will also develop the knowledge needed to manage or own a sports or fitness business.
AMU’s coaching and athletic development curriculum covers topics essential to sports training and business management:

- Sport and exercise science
- Nutrition
- Sport psychology
- Sports marketing, promotion, and finance
The sports entrepreneurship course also involves creating a plan to launch a private coaching business. You will learn from faculty experienced in coaching, personal training, and facility management.
What You Will Do When You Pursue This Master's Degree in Coaching and Athletic Development
- Analyze sport movements and design movement-oriented exercise prescriptions
- Illustrate the potential for enhancement of muscle strength, muscular endurance, power, flexibility, and motor performance during anaerobic training
- Assemble protein, carbohydrate, and fat recommendations for athletes, and discern between dietary recommendations for disease prevention and recommendations for performance
- Evaluate best practices to measure selected parameters related to athletic performance, and explain how to administer field tests appropriately
- Apply management theory and managerial leadership concepts to contemporary sports industry practices
- Integrate economic decision-making and advance finance theory and concepts to sports and sports-related enterprises as it relates to sports in contemporary society

- All AMU master's degree/graduate certificate programs require a bachelor’s degree (or higher) from an institution whose accreditation is recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA®) or its international equivalent. If you have a non-U.S. transcript, please view our International Admissions page for more information.
- Please read all graduate admission requirements before applying to this program and be prepared to submit the required documentation including a legible copy of your valid government-issued photo ID (civilian students) or official JST or CCAF transcript (military students).
